Been reading here and there for mobile plans. So for those that wants to start going for new data plan here is a short summary below - minus all the fancy free music stuff & smartphone plan (buy phone with x year contract plus the postpaid package) for better comparison.
Take into consideration, if casual use probably most users will go for mobile data since SMS becomes more irrelevant now with Whatsapp, Wechat and all sorts of messenger apps.
a) price - cheapest seems to be Umobile Hero @ RM28/month with 3GB real heavy data ratio, Redtone starts @ RM8, but after adding data plan 2GB it totals up to RM40/month and for some reason is not even in comparison list of most websites i read
b) location/coverage - if you stay at city area, then Umobile is still good. Else it's recommended to go for Celcom as their 3G coverage is one fo the best nationwide. Digi is also quite good coverage-wise
Of course, while price is an important factor when picking the right postpaid plan for all your mobile needs, the most important thing you should consider is the coverage area, especially if you wish to sign up for a device bundle with a telco with a contract of up to 24 months – that’s two whole years of continued suffering if there is hardly any coverage in the places you frequent (or even live in).
Hence, you should check the 2G, 3G and 4G coverage for each telco at their individual pages before jumping into any postpaid plans – Celcom coverage area, Maxis coverage area, DiGi coverage area and U Mobile coverage area. Here’s where Maxis somewhat justifies its premium prices: its coverage and LTE speeds is arguably the widest and most stable respectively.(source)
c) data - how much you need is really personal preference. i run 3GB with google photo backup on roaming and finally able to hit the quota last month after 2 family trips loads backup into cloud. Unless you hook up to youtube most of time, i think 3 GB is more than enough for normal usage, navigation, some surfing and checking out social network from time to time..Those working using phone calls probably will have to go for RM75 & onwards for unlimited call type package such as the Digi plan on offer currently @ RM79/month , 7GB unlimited calls to all network or Umobile's P70 Hero plan.
source see 4th column for per month commitment.
Well, nowadays senior citizens really started picking the tablets everywhere, just like our modern age toddlers, swiping away even before they are able to hold stationary. If you are at home most of time, probably won't have to worry about mobile data since most people still have unlimited broadband, but if you like to be hooked on Internet all the time then below is probably the minimum package to pay for.
For really cheap plan, low commitment , high data cap looks like U28 is the real boss & hero. Provided you live at urban areas aka major cities. See point (b) above.
Celcom is a strong contender too, coming close at RM45 per month with decent 2GB data & good overall coverage in addition to some extra data on weekends.
Digi's more internet RM28 package give 1GB data and RM48 package come with 3GB data cap. Of course, Digi have some extra stuff, bring over unused data and unlimited calls to 3 selected friends.
With more Internet, users who sign up before June 30 will receive up to 2GB of extra data which Digi promises will stay with the user for life.(source)
This article is pretty new & detailed for now..
