Trang An Grotto & Bai Dinh - the land Halong Bay

From Hanoi, it's about 2hours ride down to Trang An. This is the so-called land Halong Bay. After the sea one, we go visit land type. Zero wave, just peaceful huge lake-like boat ride. This ride is ~2hrs, should prepare umbrella for 2 reasons, if you're in middle & suddenly rain and it's very sunny. Two hours gives you a minor sunburn, not the burning pain type, the ones that gives you rosy blush face.

After lunch, take the amazing boat trip to visit Trang An grottoes whichis a gathering of 31 valleys, 50 cross-water caves, and home to 600 kinds of flora and over 200 kinds of fauna, many of them in the Red Book of Vietnam. While rowing through Trang An grotto in the quiet, fresh air of the highlands, with only the sound of birds and the oars stirring the clear water and surrounded by magnificent forested mountains upon which graze white goats, visitors enjoy a heaven on earth. The end of the day, drive back to Hanoi. (source)

So ,the general idea i get is we head South from Hanoi & stopped at Duc Linh for lunch. Still not sure if this restaurant is also called Duc Linch restaurant too..

Đức Linh is a rural district of Bình Thuận Province in the Southeast region of Vietnam
dac san thit de = specialize in meat

The front.
Right beside it.

 Outside view of the place.

Look, asians no need helmet.

At the back seems like room the owner stays at.

Sesame chicken i think & vege soup.

Chicken, satay or kebab's cousin & fish cake on stick that reminds me so much of Thai cuisine.

Stir fry chicken with bell pepper and cashew nut & the dark soy braised meat -very similar to chinese style. All these are southern Vietnamese style cuisine.

Local beer on display. For some reason, my uncle don't order this.

On the way to Trang An.

 Route B

 Route A

 The entrance ticket

~150K dong per entry for boat ride.
Area before entering.

Had a fishy experience at the entrance. We needed this card to enter, but the guarding fellow suddenly pushed one local guy behind me when i approached, we squeezed through with 1 ticket. Probably he took that fellow's ticket or that guy didn't have one to begin with.

So begins the 2 hour journey on boat through the tranquil grotto. 4 person per boat, each rowed by mostly ladies. Only one particular boat of so many rowed by a guy. Apparently guys are lazy and don't work, wifes on the other side need to work & do the household work. Sounds so familiar in many places we've been. Anyway, take note there is crystal clear water, green water. So you can't see much further than the green murk.

Going through a series of caves & 3 stops to look around.

I think one of them is the Bai Dinh temple/pagoda. source

Nearby attraction seems to be a leisure hike at Tam Coc, which is not in our itinerary. Personally i think visitng Halong Bay alone is enough, could have spent the time for other type of attraction because these two are so similar. If time is limited, probably you won't exchange Halong Bay cruise experience for Trang An right?
