On first night at Hanoi Old District town, we walked from Authentic Palace Hotel to this building for the puppet show. The admission fee is ~100k dong & 60k dong for front & back seat respectively. The whole thing is in Vietnamese and no translation, so just look at the leaflets they have in many different languages. Take note there is extra charge for taking photograph in the hall, but you can keep in your bag and bring in, since the security don't bother with checking at all.
The puppet is ..kinda creepy to me haha.
Includes many different cultural aspects of Vietnamese life and beliefs i guess.
Waiting for show to start.
Puppets in action on the water stage.
There are group of people playing traditional instruments, singing & telling stories in Vietnamese.
The puppeters all stood in water & to perform. A round of applause for their effort all this time soaked in water.
more pics & details here
Basically this is more like a cultural performance, much like aborignal dance in Thai, Taiwan, Indonesia etc..so if this is not your type of entertainment, its quite safe to skip it. Although i kind of regretted that we skipped the Korean Nanta show.
After this & the next night,we took a walk around the town. The tour guide says that it's usually busy and crowded with stalls along street, but since it's the New Year most stalls are closed. Below are random shots everywhere as we walk around before returning back to the hotel.
There we go merayau-rayau
This fountain is also nearby the theater.
Looks like a main intersection
No chance try Vietnamese KFC:(
Ice creams & cakes on road side
Angmohs must be happy to see bread stall hehe
From the other side, the road is really wide only here. The rest are 1 lane lorong type.
People selling balloons, for couples or tourist i wonder.
Pho maybe = road? I thought it's the local noodle..
Pretty lights on one of the narrow roads.
Locals seems to enjoy road side meal & drink. And tiny short stools + table with it.
Although it said art book coffee, it appears to be a bar.
Supper time.
Vietnamese Coffee, not the weasel coffee though.
One of the few shops open at this time.
Bikes everywhere, careful when crossing road. They don't bother with directions and brakes at all, look left, right left right every few steps.
Local crafts for sale
This shop is right beside the puppet show theater
Most basic stall.
Hotel is just around the corner from here.
A lot of motorbikes everywhere.
Fresh milk into ice cream, pretty interesting but taste the same haha.
Road side food don't look so hygiene.
